Man posing as corporate employee robs Dunkin Donuts

Employees, witnesses chase down robber, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orange County deputies say a man posing as a corporate employee robbed a Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins store in Orlando.

Deputies say a man, later identified as Ricardo Diaz of Orlando, dressed in a business suit walked into the store, located at 1650 N. Alafaya Trail near East Colonial Drive, around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Diaz, 48, told employees that he was conducting a store audit because there had been some "shaky business" going on and he was going to interview the store employees one at a time. He then instructed the employees to pull a cash register drawer and take it to the back office, according to a sheriff's report.

Deputies said as the employees were gathering in the back office, Diaz grabbed the cash, totaling $237, and ran out the back door. The employees and several Good Samaritans chased after the suspect and caught him near the shopping plaza until authorities could arrive, according to a sheriff's report.

Diaz was booked into jail late Monday.  He has been charged with burglary, petit theft and robbery.

Deputies say Diaz complained of medical issues and was taken to a local hospital for examination.
