Volusia County brush fire causes evacuations
Second brush fire ignites in Brevard County
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A fire has ignited in Volusia County Monday afternoon, forcing evacuations and putting homes at risk, authorities said.
Fire officials said they have evacuated two homes in the area of Hollywood Street and Fern Lane.
The fire is currently one acre and the smoke will be an issue for homeowners in the area, fire officials said. Volusia County Fire Department and Ormond Beach Fire Department have been called in to assist.
Meanwhile, a brush fire burning in Brevard County in the Rockledge area has been contained, according to Brevard Fire Rescue. Authorities said the brush fire ignited at U.S. 1 and Pineda Causeway at around 1 p.m. Monday
Brevard County Fire-Rescue crews say the fire was at least three acres and threatened three homes. The blaze, fed by dried-out brush and wind shifts, was first reported in the heavily-wooded area behind Giant Recreation World, a recreational vehicle store on U.S. 1.
