Argument escalates to homicide

Deputies: Man stabs grandmother to death

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Polk County deputies arrested a man they say plotted to kill his aunt and grandmother.

Deputies said 23-year-old Christopher Whaley was arrested for first degree murder after he stabbed his 69-year-old grandmother, Barbara Denmark, to death.

Deputies said Whaley lived with his grandmother, Denmark, at 5137 North Scenic Highway in Lake Wales, for the past five years.

Deputies said Whaley got into an argument with his aunt and grandmother while he was in Daytona Beach Saturday.\

Whaley decided he would return home and kill both women, deputies said.

When Whaley returned home, he sat in his bedroom and thought about the murderes, deputies said.

Deputies said Whaley went to the kitchen, grabbed two knives and found his grandmother while she was taking a bath.

Deputies said Whaley stabbed her repeatedly, left the room, and when he came back, he found her lying on her bedroom floor, not breathing.

Whaley decided to call 911 and report the crime instead of killing his aunt, deputies said.

Whaley was taken to the Polk County jail and booked in for first degree murder.
