A 16-year-old neighbor told deputies he was playing basketball at his home when the ball rolled over into Van Beveren's yard. When the teen walked over to retrieve the ball,  Van Beveren walked down the driveway with a gun and fired once into the ground, according to deputies. The teen was not injured.

Deputies say Van Beveren refused a breathalyzer test and at least two guns were taken into custody.

"This had the potential to be a deadly mix of guns and alcohol. The man showed very poor judgement," said Flagler County Sheriff Donald Fleming.

Van Beveren was released from the Flagler County Inmate Facility after posting $750 bond.
