NASCAR to launch patriotic campaign
Campaign celebrates America, supports U.S. military families.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR has announced the launch of a new patriotic campaign uniting the NASCAR industry and fans this summer to celebrate America and to show support for U.S. military families.
NASCAR announced last month "NASCAR Unites -- An American Salute," where this summer, NASCAR cars and trucks will be covered in red, white and blue to showcase the patriotic theme to highlight the summer season.
It will start and end at two traditionally patriotic summer NASCAR events held at Charlotte Motor Speedway later this month on May 26-27 and then at Daytona International Speedway on July 5-7.
To launch the six-week initiative, NASCAR unveiled the campaign's paint scheme for Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s No. 88 National Guard Chevrolet last month. It was unveiled in the nation's capital for more than 30,000 people attending the 134th Annual Easter Egg Roll event at the White House.
"The entire NASCAR community has a long history of recognizing the efforts of the men and women who serve in our country's military," NASCAR president Mike Helton has said. "With this effort, we continue to rally the NASCAR industry to collectively express our gratitude to those who serve our country and their families. This program will reinforce our sport's commitment to honoring the United States Military while also raising funds to help support military families."
Among those NASCAR drivers already committed to "NASCAR Unites -- An American Salute" paint schemes are Earnhardt, 2011 Cup Series champion Tony Stewart, Cup points leader Greg Biffle, Danica Patrick, Brad Keselowski and Carl Edwards.
NASCAR and The NASCAR Foundation have said they will work with charities to fund initiatives that support military families.
