Report of fire leads to Holly Hill meth lab bust

Holly Hill, Fla. – A Volusia County fire crew responding to a report of a fire early Friday morning discovered a meth lab operating inside a Holly Hill apartment.

Deputies arrived at the apartment around 2:30 a.m. Friday on 8th Street and noticed a chemical smell, said Holly Hill Capt. Steve Aldrich.

Firefighters evacuated the entire complex and found various items used for manufacturing meth inside the apartment, Aldrich said.

Holly Hill police also report they are detaining three people in connection with the meth lab. Police will verify the production of controlled substances and make arrests after the hazardous materials team dismantles the lab and removes the dangerous chemicals.

All other evacuees have been allowed back into their homes.
