LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – More than a dozen people have been arrested in the hacking of the Lake County sheriff's office-and they don't live in the U.S.

Local 6 has confirmed 14 Romanians have been arrested for hacking into and defacing the websites of 29 public institutions in their country and the LCSO website.

The arrests were made in a sweep of the eastern European country. Among the arrests was the leader, 24-year-old Gabriel Baleasa, who went by nicknames on the Internet like "Lulzcart," "Anonsweb," "Anonsboat," "Anonsweb," and "Cartman."

The website was hacked last month and officials were forced to shut down all electronic communication and Internet for more than three days.

The email addresses and personal passwords for more than 250 employees were  leaked.

It's not clear why the Romanian hackers targeted Lake County. The investigation is continuing.
