Tips on car safety during Tropical Storm Debby

Checking tires, wiper blades, brakes a necessity, experts say

ORLANDO, Fla. – With an umbrella and raincoat, you may be ready to face Tropical Storm Debby, but is your car?

Experts say there are a few things you might want to check before getting behind the wheel in inclement weather.

Wiper blades should be without cracks and touching the windshield.

"If you have a lot of streaking with the wiper blades, you can tell something is not right," said owner of World Automotive Services Dennis Raghunandan.

Experts say if you feel pulsing or shaking as you press down on your brakes it may be time for a check. Lights should be working and experts say to avoid driving through large puddles.

"Especially at a high rate of speed, because the car can pull one way or the other, unexpectedly, and the driver can overreact, over-steer, and that can cause an accident ," he said.

Tires should have plenty of tread depth, and be worn evenly across, according to experts.
