OCALA, Fla. – An Ocala family of 5 survived a house fire, thanks their neighbor, according to Ocala Fire Rescue.
Firefighters said a car and carport ignited, with flames extending to the house on Southeast 24th Street just before 6 a.m. Monday.
The tenant told fire officials that she, another adult and three children were sleeping when a neighbor woke them up to tell them about the fire.
"The residents were able to escape the blaze unharmed and called 911" said incident commander Scott Bolton in a release.
Firefighters found a functioning smoke alarm inside the home that was severly damaged by the heat.
The Red Cross was called to assist the family which included three children between the ages of six and fourteen. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Ocala Fire Rescue.
