Driver nods off, slams into several cars in downtown Orlando

No one injured in crash

ORLANDO, Fla. – A driver who fell asleep at the wheel slammed into several cars late Tuesday in downtown Orlando, according to police.

The chain-reaction crash occurred on Orange Avenue near Livingston Street.

"At first we thought that the car behind us just parked a little too close," a driver said. "But with police and (the media) out here, we realized it was a little bit bigger."

According to police, the driver nodded off and sideswiped a car before crashing into four other vehicles.

Kristen Jeffery was surprised to see his car damaged as he walked up to the scene.

"There was more than enough space to park between mine and his car and I was wondering why he was that close," said Jeffery.  "Then the police officers came over and kind of explained everything real quick, and I saw the rest of the cars.  It's just a mess, really."

No one was injured in the crash.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was ticketed for careless driving.
