Former DeLand minister convicted of sex battery on 12-year-olds

Michael Campbell lured victims by promising modeling jobs, officials say

DeLAND, Fla. – A 48-year-old former DeLand minister was found guilty of sexually battering two teens by convincing them he was giving them modeling jobs.

A jury deliberated for 45 minutes on Thursday to convict Michael Charles Campell of two counts of sexual battery; engage sex conduct, minor 12 to 18 years of age, a first degree felony.

Campbell, who was also a former funeral home worker in Daytona Beach, asked one 12-year-old's parents to allow her to work for his funeral home, but told the victim they would secretly do modeling jobs, according to court officials. Instead, Campell would take the girl to a motel and sexually batter her.

Officials said Campell lured another 12 to 13-year-old victim at his West Palm Beach church in the same manner.

Campbell faces a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison.
