Man arrested in DeBary bar stabbing over counterfeit money

Suspected drug transaction ends with man being stabbed in chest

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was arrested for stabbing another man during an argument about money in a DeBary bar.

Volusia County Sheriff deputies responded to a call around 1 a.m. at Rumor's Bar, where DeBary resident John Bemish had been stabbed in the chest.

Bemish identified Kevin Roberson, 34, as his attacker and witnesses told deputies they had seen the suspect jump into a silver car. Shortly later, deputies found a silver 2008 Chrysler HHR and took Roberson into custody.

Roberson told deputies that he went to Rumor's Bar to meet a woman who called him asking for drugs. When Roberson tried to collect money from the woman at the bar, one of her male friends paid Roberson with what Roberson suspected to be counterfeit bills.

Roberson told deputies he left the bar after arguing over the money but witnesses reported seeing the victim collapse to the ground in front of Roberson before he ran away with a knife in his hand.

Roberson has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
