2-year-old drowns in canal

Child found by father in canal

Cocoa Beach police are investigating a tragedy that killed a 2-year-old Saturday.

Police said around 2:44 p.m. Saturday, firefighters were called to the canal across from 33 Cedar Avenue in reference to a possible drowning.

Officers located a father who had discovered his two year-old male child floating in the canal across from their residence, police said.

Police said the child was taken immediately to Cape Canaveral Hospital where he died.  

Police said it is unknown at this time how the child got out of the house. Both parents and other family were present at the time the child went missing.
