Satellite Beach police investigate toddler's drowning

Police say 2-year-old was found in swimming pool

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. – Satellite Beach police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl who was found dead in a swimming pool on Tuesday.

Police said the toddler was found at a home on Temple Street, in which the mother, grandmother and great aunt of the child were all in the home at the time, providing cleaning services.

The homeowner was not at the house at the time of the incident., police said. The victim and family are residents of Barefoot Bay.

"The preliminary investigation at the scene indicates the adults lost sight of the child for at least 8 minutes before they found her in the pool," said Satellite Police Commander Brad Hodge in a release. "They pulled her from the pool and called 911.  It appears a sliding glass door in the back of the house may have been left open slightly and that was where the child was able to get outside."

The Department of Children and Families is investigating as authorities await results from the Medical Examiner.
