2 arrested after posing for picture in front of deputy helicopter
Volusia County deputies charge 2 with disorderly intoxication
DeLAND, Fla. – Two men who told authorities they broke through the barriers and ran to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office helicopter to take a picture were arrested and charged with resisting arrest and disorderly intoxication.
According to the deputy report, deputies were landing the helicopter in response to a trauma alert call at JR's Country Western Club in DeLand just after 1 a.m. Sunday when Jason Mayid, 25, and Justin Sanford, 24, ran through the blocked off parking lot.
Mayid and Sanford continued to take photographs with their cellphones despite deputy orders to leave and were forced to be physically escorted away from Air One, according to deputies.
According to the report, Mayid and Sanford told deputies they had come from JR's after drinking "a few drinks," saw the helicopter land and "thought it would be an awesome picture."
Mayid and Sanford were taken to the Volusia County Jail.
