ORLANDO, Fla – An Orlando mother was arrested and taken to jail after police say she injured her daughter so badly, the 6-year-old had to be taken to the hospital.

Police were called to the young girl's school on Wednesday after a cafeteria worker noticed blood flowing down the girl's face.

The girl told school workers that she had fallen and hit her head on a rock, but investigators say the injuries did not match her story. Police say after interviewing some of the girl's siblings, they believe Talbert actually hit her daughter several times with a brush because she couldn't find her book bag.

The girl was taken to the hospital but is expected to recover.

Talbert is charged with aggravated child abuse and is being held in the Orange County jail.

The Department of Children and Families is also investigating.
