Promotion allows people to name price for adopting pet

Promotion runs through Wednesday

ORLANDO, Fla. – SPCA of Central Florida kicked off September with a promotion that allows people to name their own price for a dog or a cat they would like to adopt.

"The Labor of Love Cat and Dog Campaign" started on what is traditionally a day off for shelter workers. Instead, the shelter opened its doors to the public for the first time on Labor Day, and its staff was able to find new homes for more than 100 cats and dogs at its very full shelters in Orlando and Sanford.

"Summer months are the most difficult months for cats in shelters," said Kerri Burns, Executive Director for SPCA of Central Florida. "The shelters are filled to capacity with highly adoptable cats, and we are turning to the community for help by asking the public to adopt a homeless cat during the end of summer season."

The promotion continues through Wednesday at both of its shelters.
