Lake County man accused of luring girl online

Bobby Moffitt, 23, had relationship with underage girl, deputies say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A Lake County man has been arrested for luring a girl into a sexual relationship after faking his way through a website's safeguard to keep adults from communicating with kids.

Bobby Moffitt, 23, was arrested on cyber crimes charges Wednesday, and deputies believe there could be more victims.

Moffitt pretended to be a teen on the social networking site Meetme.com where deputies say he met his victim, a 15-year-old girl.

According to an arrest report, Moffitt admitted to deputies he listed he was a 17-year-old on the site to get around a safeguard that prohibits adults from communicating with children.

Deputies said Moffitt carried on a sexual relationship with the girl and sent her inappropriate pictures through the internet, all while knowing she was underage.

But Moffitt claims the girl lied to him about her age, telling him she was an adult. He later admitted he discovered her real age and has sex with her at least three times anyway.

Investigators say at least one of those times, Moffitt climbed through a window to meet with the girl without her parents finding out.

"Its hard to monitor your children on social media sites. Parents feel like its fun, but its dangerous," said Lori Tingle, a mother of two young children. The internet is a great thing in some aspects, but it opens up our children and makes everyone susceptible. You don't know who is on the other side, you only know what they tell you."

Moffitt's bond was set at $60,000 for 5 counts related to the inappropriate relationship with the teen. He was also given $5,000 bond on a sixth charge related to a previous crime he confessed to during questioning about the sex crime.

Deputies hope anyone with information will come forward and contact the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
