A battalion chief said a wooden box with "Explosives" written on it was found. Officials said the explosives were old with a 1968 date written on the packaging.

Police said the explosive disposal team soaked the items for an hour to make it less volatile. Afterwards, the explosives would be taken away from the home with a motor escort.

Six surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution. Two bus routes were redirected up the street because of Thursday's incident.

Altamonte Springs police and Seminole County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating. Firefighters were on standby as the scene cleared after 5:30 p.m.
