Coast Guard searches for missing barge worker in Port Canaveral

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. – Coast Guard officials are searching for a missing barge worker off of the coast of Port Canaveral on Friday morning.

Coast Guard officials said a barge was 30 to 40 feet from shore when workers noticed a coworker was missing as they were coming into the Canaveral Barge Canal in Merritt Island at 9 a.m.

They reported the missing worker, described as an adult male wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans with no life jacket, and the search is ongoing.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and loved ones of the missing man during this incredibly challenging time," said Lt. David Kelley, command duty officer in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center.

Coast Guard Port Canaveral, Coast Guard Clearwater, Brevard County Sheriff's Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are searching for the worker.
