Woman stabbed overnight in critical condition

APOPKA, Fla. – Orange count sheriff's deputies say a woman was found lying in the middle of the road bleeding from an apparent stab wound.

"A lady who lives in the area was driving home and found a woman lying in the roadway bleeding. She went home and called 911," according to Lt. Sheri Chehutski with the Orange county sheriff's office.

Deputies say the woman was found with a serious stab wound to her neck, but they have not yet identified the victim.

"The person who found her lives in the area and she said she doesn't recognize the victim and has never seen her in the area before," Lt. Sheri Chehutski said Saturday.

The victim was found just before 3:00 a.m. near the intersection of McCormick and Apopka-Vineland Rd in Apopka.

Deputies say the victim was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center. She is undergoing surgery and at last check is in critical condition.

Deputies say they don't know how long the victim has been lying in the road bleeding and have little information on who is responsible for the stabbing.

Deputies say they are currently canvassing the area  and knocking on doors to see if anyone heard or saw anything.
