Man in custody after firing shots at Walmart, Orange County deputies say

No one injured in Orlando shooting

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County deputies on Monday are trying to figure out why a man fired a gun at a Walmart.

Deputies said they responded to 911 calls after shots were fired Sunday at the Walmart at 8101 South John Young Parkway.

Deputies confirmed with Local 6 that shots were fired, but no one was hit by the bullets.

Deputies said when they arrived on scene they found a man on the ground near the entrance of the store with his arms and legs spread.

Deputies said the man was pointed out by witnesses as the shooter.

Deputies said the man, 43-year-old Rodney Summers, made claims that someone had stolen his bike and he was trying to get it back.

Deputies said Summers approached three victims and produced a firearm then started firing one or two rounds into the ground and possibly one round in the air.

Witnesses inside the Walmart say they were shocked and scared.

"I was standing in the lobby and I heard a popping sound," said Alexis Ross. "I looked around and didn't see anything and then I heard the second [gunshot] and I looked up and there's a guy walking along the front of the store with a gun in the air, just shooting," she said.

"It could have been anybody. The bullet could have hit any one of us," said shopper Joyce Milton.

Deputies said Summers was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, reckless display of a firearm, and aggravated assault and taken to the Orange County Jail.
