Police say suspects hit man, stole wallet, got away in Jeep Wrangler

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Police are asking for the public's help in finding the people responsible for attacking a man and then stealing a Jeep Wrangler.

The incident happened at 1:51 p.m. Saturday on 218 North Orange Street in New Smyrna Beach.

A silver sedan dropped off two men in the area of Washington Street and North Orange Street.

Police said one of the men struck Jason Cynowa in the head with a 10-pound weight, causing a laceration to his forehead.

Afterwards, officials said a struggle ensued and Cynowa tried to defend himself. One of the men said he had a firearm and stole Cynowa's wallet. The men then fled the scene toward Washington Street and North Dixie Freeway.

Seeing that their getaway car was no longer at the scene, police said the two stole an unoccupied Jeep Wrangler at 310 North Dixie Freeway, and left the area westbound on Washington Street.

New Smyrna Beach police described the two suspects as black men in their early 20s. One of the men wore a dark green shirt with a white tank top underneath and dark colored pants or shorts. He is about 6-feet tall and weighs 150 to 175 pounds. The other man wore a dark colored shirt with white tank top underneath and orange plaid shorts. Police said he is a little over 5-feet tall and weighs 140 to 150 pounds.

Police said the silver sedan may have been driven by additional suspects currently sought. The Jeep has a Florida license plate that reads AHH0M, authorities said.
