Tri-Rail train hits man near Palm Beach station

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A man was struck by a Tri-Rail train Monday night in South Florida after he reportedly jumped from another train to recover his cellphone he'd left behind, according to officials.

The incident happened around 8:10 p.m. at the Palm Beach Tri-Rail station after the 32-year-old man reportedly pulled the emergency cord, pushed out the emergency exit window and jumped while the train was still moving.

The man was hit by another train after he jumped, according to Tri-Rail. He was then taken to St. Mary's Medical Center.

Officials believe the man may have left his cellphone on a bench and pulled the cord just as the train was pulling out.

The condition of the man is unknown at this time.
