MELBOURNE, Fla. – A lockdown was lifted Monday evening at the Florida Institute of Technology, according to a school spokesman.
Florida Tech said it had received a threat by email earlier in the evening. The email alluded to a shooting, officials said.
As a precaution, the school advised all faculty, staff and students on the Melbourne campus to stay where they were about 8:50 p.m. If they were in a class or dorm, they were asked to stay until everything was all clear.
Melbourne police were called to investigate.
Florida Tech said the Code Red was lifted at 10:14 p.m. Monday, and students, faculty and staff were free to move across the campus.
Officials said there was no incident, but the lockdown was put in place as a precaution.
