Masked gunman breaks into Tangelo Park home, shoots man

Orange County Sheriff's deputies search for up to 3 assailants

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 22-year-old man was wounded early Thursday when a masked gunmen broke into his Orlando home and shot him while four others were sleeping, deputies said.

The shooting happened around 1:20 a.m. in the 5100 block of Polaris Street in Tangelo Park.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, up to three assailants, all of whom had their faces covered, forced their way into a home and a gunfight ensued.

A man inside the home was shot in his upper chest, near his shoulder, according to a family member.  He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in stable condition, deputies said.

"Our best witness is going to be the victim himself," said Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Paul Hopkins.

Investigators told Local 6 that the shooting may have been centered around drugs.

The Sheriff's Office said four others were asleep inside the home at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured.

A search using K-9s failed to located the culprits.  Deputies said the shooter faces charges of attempted murder and armed burglary.
