Police arrest Walmart beer thief

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – An arrest has been made in the case from December 30th where a Walmart manager was trapped in the bed of a fleeing pick-up truck after what started as a retail theft.

Manager Michael Dawson's attempt to stop two shoplifters at the Walmart in Titusville on December 30th 2013 left him inside the bed of a pick-up truck fleeing the scene. Dawson was eventually freed miles away.

Titusville Police were led to Joseph Michael Long, of 1400 Albert Lane in Cocoa. Long was positively identified as the one who stole the beer, then intentionally drove away with Dawson in the bed of the truck.

The truck used in the crime, registered to Long's father, was also located and evidence was recovered from it.

As Titusville detectives searched for Long, he was arrested by the Cocoa Police Department on unrelated charges. Titusville detectives arrested him there around 7 p.m. tonight.

Joseph Long, pictured, has been charged with Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, and Grand Theft.
