Orlando gun sale to go on after controversy over George Zimmerman attending

Location changed to The Arms Room, store owner says

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Saturday gun sale featuring George Zimmerman as a guest will reportedly go on, but at a different location.

The event will be held at The Arms Room, located at 19048 East Colonial Drive, at 10 a.m., the store owners said on Friday, and Zimmerman will be attending.

"The New Orlando Gun Show" was originally set to be held at The Majestic at 801 North John Young Parkway, but organizers told Local 6 The Majestic canceled their event late Thursday.

"The New Orlando Gun Show" organizers said they have had a year-long contract with The Majestic, but only recently asked Zimmerman to be the featured guest. Promotions for his attendance created controversy.

The organizers had an emergency court hearing on Friday to prove that "The Majestic" broke its contract. A judge denied the injunction, saying the gun show organizers can pursue other legal action against The Majestic.

Mike Piwowarski, organizer of the show, said he spent the day calling over 80 vendors, telling them the show is cancelled.

"We weren't trying to exploit Mr. Zimmerman, he made the offer to come to the show, anybody else had made an offer and they were legally eligible to be around guns and firearms, we would have told them yes, we're not in the business of discriminating and turning anybody away no matter who it is," he said.

Piwowarski said he will be suing The Majestic for lost earnings, which he believes would have been more than $300,000 in gun sales.

"The Majestic" has not returned Local 6's request for comment.
