McDonald's diners run from fire in Ocoee

Cause of grease fire believed to be accidental

OCOEE, Fla. – McDonald's diners and employees were forced to run to safety Sunday afternoon after the restaurant began to fill with smoke.

Ocoee firefighters said the fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. at the McDonald's located at 1620 Silver Star Road.

A large amount of gray smoke was seen coming from the dining area and roof of the restaurant when the first emergency units arrived.

Firefighters said a grease fire was burning out of control when crews made their way inside.  Meanwhile, employees and patrons were seen scrambling to evacuate the smoke-filled restaurant.

The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the kitchen area, which sustained moderate damage, according to firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest it was accidental.

No injuries were reported.
