Teenage boys arrested after shooting girls with BB gun, Palm Bay police say

14-year-old boys admit to the shooting, police say

PALM BAY, Fla. – A Palm Bay mother is fighting to get her son out of the Juvenile Detention Center after he was arrested for shooting his airsoft gun at two girls in the neighborhood.

According to police, the 13-year-old shot one girl in the stomach and another in the leg after he and another teen fought with the girls over a backpack that had the pellets inside.

"I just want him home. He doesn't deserve this. He's a good kid," said the teen's mother.

Her son and his friend have been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm.

"It rises to that level because they were using it in that threatening matter and aggressive matter, it rose to that level," said Yvonne Martinez, spokesperson for the Palm Bay Police Department.

Martinez says the grandmother of one of the girls wanted to press charges.

The teen's mother will be back in court Wednesday morning, and hopes the judge will grant her son in-home detention.

She has since thrown out her other son's airsoft gun.

"Take them away until their eighteen because it doesn't matter if it's a toy or not, they're going to lock your son up," she said.
