Kissimmee child care teacher pushed, injured 3-year-old boy, deputies say

Laura Maria Acevedo arrested on child abuse charges

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A 25-year-old teacher was arrested Monday on accusations that she injured a 3-year-old boy at an Osceola County day care.

Laura Maria Acevedo, of Orlando, was arrested on child abuse charges.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called around 6:45 p.m. to Kidsville Academy at 2557 Remington Boulevard in Kissimmee.

Deputies said a woman picked up her 3-year-old son at the school and added that the day care told her that her son suffered a large bruise on his head when he jumped and fell earlier in the day.

The boy, however, told his mother that his teacher pushed him and he fell on a metal cot, according to deputies.

The school administrator provided deputies with surveillance video, which supported the boy's version of what happened, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies also said a similar incident happened to another boy at the day care.  He suffered a swollen welt, they said.

Acevedo, who was enrolled at the University of Central Florida last semester as a music education student, was questioned before being arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail.

An investigation is ongoing, and detectives are asking anyone who has had a similar incident involving Acevedo to contact Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
