Scammers target Florida's toll system

ORLANDO, Fla. – Scammers are targeting the state's toll system to steal people's money.

Local 6 has learned of fake notices being sent to people across the state claiming they owe money on an unpaid toll.

State officials say the notice is from "Toll Enforcement, LLC". The fake letter warns recipients they owe $57 immediately and must only pay by money order or cashier check.

Kristi Kluba received one in the mail and quickly noticed other warning signs.

"My husband called on Monday morning to the offices that were listed on there to ask about those and neither of the numbers worked," Kluba said. "That left us to believe it was fraud."

State officials caught wind of the issue Monday after receiving an influx of callers.

Warnings have since been posted on Florida Turnpike's website.

Anyone who has received a letter is urged to contact the SunPass Customer Service Center at 888-865-5352.
