Possible mold may force police out of Umatilla building

UAMTILLA, Fla. – City officials in Umatilla are working to determine if police need to move out of their building after discovering possible mold.

Police Chief Adam Bolton told Local 6 the department started to pack, but Monday a mold specialist took a look and is now guessing a move may not be necessary. The city won't know for sure until mold tests coming back in about a week.

"We're enforcing the law and running a police department at the same time possibly moving an entire operation," said Bolton.

City officials think the possible mold may be forming because of water leaking from the gutters of the building next door. The chief says the roof will definitely need to be replaced.

If a move is necessary, the city may rent a temporary space down the street from the current police department. That could cost nearly $2000 per month.

City council will discuss the possible mold issue Tuesday night.
