Pup that survived bear attack seeks good home

Percival the dog maintained pleasant demeanor after attack

TAVARES, Fla. – After surviving a brutal attack from a bear, one four-legged friend is on to his next challenge: finding a home.

Percival, the 2-year-old treeing Walker coonhound, grew up in the woods of Lake County before his run-in with a bear. He was taken in by the Lake County Animal Shelter, where his wounds continue to be treated.

"In addition to the enormous crater in his back, he had hemorrhaging behind his eye," Whitney Luckhart, a Lake County Animal Services volunteer who is fostering Percival said in a release. "He was hosting thousands of ticks, but always maintained a pleasant demeanor. He has a very cheerful personality and loves attention."

Percival will weigh less than 60 pounds when he's fully grown, and he is touted as good with children, cats and other dogs.

Animal Services cleaned Percy up and Luckhart continues to care for his healing wound.

The pup is neutered and up-to-date on all of his vaccinations, and anyone interested in adopting him is asked to contact the shelter at 352-343-9688. His adoption fee is $50.
