Loud boom, smoke create scare on Florida flight

Envoy airplane makes emergency landing in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – An Envoy Air flight made an emergency landing in Tampa late Thursday after a loud boom was heard and smoke was seen on the plane.

Flight 3454, carrying about 50 passengers and crew from Tallahassee to Miami, was forced to land at Tampa International Airport.

Alberto Carvalho, the superintendent of Miami-Dade Public Schools, who was aboard the plane, said passengers had to deplane twice in Tallahassee because of mechanical problems.

"Once we landed, they told me that they saw smoke -- an acid smell," Carvalho said.  "And shortly thereafter, the flight attendants, in a rather distressed way, announced to the passengers that they were going to go in for an emergency landing."

No one was injured in the incident.

American Eagle Airlines changed its name to Envoy Air earlier this month.
