Teen killed in head-on collision in Daytona Beach

Troopers investigating 6th fatal accident this weekend

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Highway patrol had eastbound State Road 92 at Red John Road shut down for several hours because of a fatal accident.

Troopers said they were called to the accident around 8:30 a.m. Sunday after a report of a head on collision.

Troopers said 17-year-old Garrett Daugharty was west on State Road 92, when for unknown reasons he drove off the shoulder of the road.

Troopers said Daugharty overcorrected, went into the median and into westbound traffic, where he hit 41-year-old Jennifer Collins head on.

Troopers said Daugharty was killed at the scene and Collins was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

The road was shut down for several hours while troopers conducted their investigation, but no details have been released.

The road finally re-opened just after noon.

This is the sixth fatal accident that troopers have had to investigate in the Central Florida area this weekend.
