Man trying to get kids from school accused of attacking Brevard teacher

Incident occurred at Meadowlane Primary Elementary School in West Melbourne

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. – A man trying to pick up his children from a Brevard County school was arrested Friday on allegations of attacking a teacher.

Ronald D. Brown Jr., 28, was arrested after a Thursday incident at Meadowlane Primary Elementary School at 2800 Wingate Boulevard in West Melbourne.

According to police, Brown was attempting to pick up his two children from the school, but the teacher did not recognize him and asked for his identification.

Brown went to his car and returned with his wife's ID, prompting the teacher to say, "That's not you," according to police.

Brown became enraged and began shouting obscenities at the teacher, police said.  He then shoved the teacher, who was guarding the door, and attempted several times to remove his child from the teacher's hands, police said.

He eventually left the classroom with his child, according to police, who added that the children's mother arrived as Brown was leaving and both children were turned over to her.

Police said the teacher feared that Brown was trying to kidnap the child.

The school board told Local 6 that it's not aware of any injuries in the incident.

Brown was arrested on charges of battery on a school official, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, disruption of an educational institute, possession of a controlled substance and violation of felony probation.

Brown was booked into the Brevard County Jail and was being held on no bond.
