3rd Carnival ship to sail from Port Canaveral

PORT CANAVERAL, FLa. – Carnival Cruise Lines has completed its lineup change at Port Canaveral, as it moved the Liberty from the Port of Miami, Local 6 news partner Florida Today reports.

The Liberty will sail from Port Canaveral on various five-, seven- and eight-day Caribbean itineraries. With its redeployment to Port Canaveral, the Liberty joins the Sensation and the Sunshine as Carnival's Port Canaveral-based ships. Carnival's Pride and Splendor also make port-of-call stops here.

In a statement released Monday, Carnival President and Chief Executive Officer Gerry Cahill said: "Port Canaveral is one of our fastest-growing home ports, and deploying a third year-round ship from the Space Coast is a clear indication of the confidence we have in this important market."

With the arrival of Liberty, Carnival increases its passenger count from Port Canaveral to an estimated 600,000 a year on about 200 cruises to a total of 18 port destinations throughout the Caribbean and the Bahamas.

Port Canaveral Chief Executive Officer John Walsh said he is pleased to see Carnival's commitment to Port Canaveral.

The Carnival Sunshine last month began year-round five- to eight-day Caribbean departures from Port Canaveral. The Carnival Sensation offers year-round three- and four-day Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral.

The Liberty has a capacity of 2,974 passengers, based on double-occupancy. It underwent a major renovation that included new restaurants, bars and the Punchliner Comedy Club.

The Sunshine and the Liberty replace two other Carnival ships — the Ecstasy, which stopped sailing from Port Canaveral in January, and the Dream, which left Port Canaveral this month. The shifts increase Carnival's overall capacity at Port Canaveral.
