Fatal crash on SR 429 closes ramp to Florida Turnpike

Hazmat team cleans up spill

OCOEE, Fla. – A fatal crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer hauling fertilizer forced officials to close a ramp to the Florida Turnpike in Central Florida.

Chad Stewart, 43, of Mascotte, was killed in the single-vehicle crash, which happened around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday on southbound State Road 429 near Ocoee, prompting the closure of the northbound on-ramp to the Turnpike.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Stewart lost control of the truck for an unknown reason, and the tractor-trailer overturned onto a guardrail.

Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

A hazmat team was called to clean up the fertilizer and a fuel spill.
