Woman with terminal illness dodges falling tree in Orange County

Residents believe last week's storms weakened rotting tree

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando couple believes last week's storms weakened a decades-old tree that was starting to rot, and ended up crashing through the roof of their home.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday in the 6000 block of Nawadaha Boulevard off Silver Star Road.

A family friend was sitting in the living room when she heard what she described as a "creaking" sound. She went to open the front door to investigate and said the tree fell through the living room in the same area where she was sitting.

"I have a terminal illness, but I guess it wasn't my time to go," Grace Snape told Local 6.

The tree hit Madoorie Ramdhan's house, but actually belongs to her neighbors who own the house directly behind her.

Part of the tree fell on Ramdhan's house. The rest of it fell into another neighbor's backyard.

Ramdhan's house is uninhabitable, but she said it could have been much worse.

"Not everybody's lucky like I am," Ramdhan said. "My family is very lucky."
