2 arrested in incident at Publix at Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Melbourne police said they arrested two people who tried to snatch a purse from a woman in a Publix parking lot.

Police said they were called to the Publix Supermarket at 3200 Lake Washington Road around 11:35 a.m. Sunday about a robbery.

Police said a man, later identified as  47-year-old Michael Ludwig, grabbed the purse of an 80-year-old woman in the parking lot.

Police said the victim held on to her purse which made Ludwig force her to the ground, where he proceeded to drag her across the pavement in order to get the purse from her hands.

Police said a witness to the robbery tried to help and catch Ludwig, but he was able to run away.

Ludwig then got into a car driven by 44-year-old Carolyn Stevens and she drove off, officers said.

Police were able to find the car quickly and catch both Stevens and Ludwig.

Police said Ludwig is currently on felony probation and had an active felony warrant out of Brevard County.

Police said the victim did receive minor injuries and is being treated by hospital staff at this time.
