3 arrested in fake officer home invasion, Volusia deputies say

Couple in DeLand bound by intruders posing as cops

DeLAND, Fla. – Three people accused of tying up a couple during a home invasion were  arrested on Tuesday, according to deputies.

Howard Overturf, 42; Michael Umont, 44; and Melissa Stolfi, 38, were arrested in the May home invasion in DeLand.

Volusia County deputies say the two men tricked an 82-year-old man and his 63-year-old wife into thinking they were police officers, flashing badges and wearing tactical masks. When the couple opened the door, the men tied them up, stole their jewelry and $800.

Deputies said they were able to track the tactical gear the duo was wearing to a local army surplus store that had surveillance images.

Overturf and Umont are being charged with kidnapping, home invasion robbery and impersonating an officer. Stolfi is being charged with principal to home invasion robbery after deputies say she was with Umont buying the tactical gear at the army surplus store before the home invasion.

The trio is being held at the Volusia County jail.
