New Winter Park businesses add to traffic concerns
WINTER PARK, Fla. – It may soon become even harder to find a spot at a popular Winter Park shopping plaza.
The spots outside Trader Joe's fill up fast, and in the coming weeks, other popular businesses will be opening their doors.
"Something needs to be done about the parking," said Alana Glueckman, who drove from Polk County to get his favorite Trader Joe's coffee.
The shopping plaza off 17-92 will soon be home to Orange Theory Fitness, Shake Shack, and a Food Network celebrity is opening a store here next month, which could mean a lot more customers fighting for a limited number of spots.
"I can understand their frustration, I mean, if you are driving through that area it might seem now there is a lot more traffic and there is," said Clarissa Howard, city spokesperson.
Howard says the traffic should calm down once the second Trader Joe's opens in Dr. Phillips.
Jillian Hopke, the winner of the show "Cupcake Wars," is opening her first store next to the Trader Joe's.
She's expecting her fans will follow her here.
"I'd rather it be busy, than have nobody at all. I'd rather them need more parking spaces than the plaza can accommodate," she said.
