Geraldine Thompson beats Gary Siplin in state Senate race

ORLANDO, Fla. – Gary Siplin lost to incumbent Geraldine F. Thompson in the Democratic primary race for state Senate District 12, which serves Orange County.

Thompson will now face Republican Edward DeAguilera or Fritz Jackson Seide in November's general election.

Siplin was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, District 39, in Orlando in 2000.

He sponsored SB 228, also known as the "droopy drawers" bill, in 2011. The bill would require Florida public school districts to add a ban on sagging pants to their dress codes. The legislation was enacted by Gov. Rick Scott in May 2011.
