'Soul Surfer' to make Cocoa Beach appearance
COCOA BEACH, Fla. – Bethany Hamilton will be in Cocoa Beach on Saturday to sign autographs and meet with fans.
Hamilton, an inspirational surfer and author, will be at Ron Jon Surf Shop from noon to 1 p.m.
Hamilton also is an ambassador for Cobian footwear, which has the "Bethany Hamilton Signature Sandal." The sandals will be available for purchase at the event. A portion of the proceeds will go toward her Friends of Bethany foundation, which supports shark attack survivors and amputees, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.
Ron Jon Surf Shop is located at 4151 N. Atlantic Ave., Cocoa Beach.
Hamilton was last in Cocoa Beach in 2013, where she spoke at the First United Methodist Church of Cocoa Beach. Prior to that, she was at Ron Jon in 2011 and met with fans and signed autographs.
During a surf session in 2003, a 14-foot tiger shark attacked Hamilton and she lost her left arm, seemingly putting an end to her surfing career.
One month after the attack, however, Hamilton returned to the water and just more than a year later won her first national title. In 2007, she became a professional surfer.
Hamilton's story has been told in an autobiography and in the 2011 film, "Soul Surfer." Hamilton is also involved in numerous charitable efforts. Now Hamilton, who is married, is a Christian motivational speaker and healthy lifestyle advocate.
