Fatal crash closes Interstate 275 Sunday

TAMPA, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that killed three people on Interstate 275 in Tampa Sunday morning.

Troopers said around 6:09 a.m. Sunday a car was going south in the northbound lanes of I-275 near Bearss Avenue in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said the driver collided with a northbound tractor-trailer that was hauling petroleum products for Gemini Motor Transport.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt, but three people in the wrong-way car, sisters Gabrielle Lanier and Lakritra Lanier and acquaintance John Pierson, were killed.

Troopers said the collision was the fourth fatal wrong-way crash on I-275 since February.
