SUV crashes into Orlando motel

No one injured in wreck at Howard Vernon Motel

ORLANDO, Fla. – A driver was arrested on DUI charges after a sport utility vehicle crashed into an Orlando motel Wednesday morning, causing major damage and landing feet from guests' rooms.

No injuries were reported in the crash, which happened around 12:30 a.m. at the Howard Vernon Motel on Colonial Drive at Edgewater Drive.  The driver's name has not been released by police.

The SUV slammed into the entrance of the motel, narrowly missing a courtyard and several rooms.

According to Orlando police, officers were investigating the claim that another vehicle cut off the Mercedes SUV, sending it across the eastbound lanes of the roadway and into the motel.

Several guests and others gathered outside after the crash, but it did not appear that anyone would have to relocate.  Code enforcement officials will inspect the damage, however, and make the final call on whether the guests can remain.
