eBay hiring 2,500 for holidays in Brevard

Company calls it 'biggest ramp up we've had'

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The local eBay Enterprise operation says it's hiring more than 2,500 workers, double than what it has ramped up in the past, to prepare for the holiday shopping season.

That includes adding about 2,000 at its Melbourne location, 915 S. Babcock St., and 500 at a new eBay location at 255 North Sykes Creek Parkway on Merritt Island.

The customer-service jobs pay about $10 an hour -- more for those also fluent in Spanish and French -- and both full and part-time positions are available. There also are opportunities for employees to work from home and to work with the company full-time once the busy holiday season starts to slow after the first of the year.

Duties for these positions include interacting with customers to provide information about products, services, orders and billing. Additionally, employees will keep track of interactions and ensure that any needed changes are taken care of for the customer. Qualifications are good customer service skills and ability to navigate the Internet and multitask.

Hiring has already started for the Melbourne site. For the Merritt Island location, hiring is expected to begin next month.

The growth of e-commerce is fueling the hiring surge.

"This is the biggest ramp up we've had," said Robyn Hatfield, the branch manager for eBay Enterprise. "It's really the push of e-commerce. This is the follow-up step for some Fortune 500 companies' web sites. When e-commerce increases so does the need for call centers."

Hatfield would not disclose the client companies.

Individuals interested in employment opportunities for the holiday should apply online with Adecco or call 321-345-7562.
