Trial of man involved in gang shooting begins

Paul Smith accused of starting shooting

SANFORD, Fla. – Jury selection is expected to begin Monday in the trial of a man prosecutors say participated in a deadly gang-related gun battle in Winter Springs.

Paul Smith faces three counts of homicide and one count of attempted homicide.

Investigators say Smith was attending a charity motorcycle ride in 2012 when his former gang, the Warlocks Motorcycle Club, showed up.

Investigators say Smith started shooting, which started a gunfight that left three people dead.

Smith says he was shooting in self-defense.

Three other people have already been convicted and are serving time for their roles in the shooting.
