Boat catches fire, sinks in Halifax River in Daytona Beach
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Several agencies, including the Coast Guard, have been called to a boat fire in the Halifax River in Daytona Beach.
The fire broke out Tuesday morning near 14 Granville Circle, which is located on the east side of the river, a few blocks west of State Road A1A.
When Daytona Beach firefighters and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission arrived on scene they found a 40-foot sailboat fully involved in fire against an unoccupied boat dock.
Video from Local 6 news helicopter Sky 6 showed the boat filled with water near a dock on the river.
According to Daytona Beach fire officials, two people were aboard the boat when some type of electrical or engine issue sparked the fire. The occupants were picked up by a passing boat while the boat drifted into an unoccupied dock, officials said.
The boat sunk into the waterway and is a total loss.
No injuries were reported.
